1. To learn more about access to Videos and Bandwidth issues, read this post about Using Video from the Internet.
2. Start using Delicious to tag instructional videos from Teacher Tube and/or You Tube.
- Because of CIPA rules, You Tube is blocked on all student machines, but may be accessed on a CWS. There is a possibility that Teacher Tube can be viewed on a student machine.
3. After you have collected some videos, convert them so that they can be viewed in your classroom. There are a couple of ways to do this. Choose which one fits your needs. Try converting the movie to a .wmv to play it in Windows Media Player. If the .wmv doesn’t play, try the .avi format. On a Mac, .mov is the best option, but .avi may work also.
- iDesktop.tv is a site that allows you to search for YouTube videos and then download them to your computer. iDesktop.tv is not blocked on CWS machines. Since you have already bookmarked a few movies, it should be easy to type in the name and find them. You will need to sign up for a free account. If needed here are the written directions about using iDesktop.tv. iDesktop.tv QuickGuide (.pdf)
- Zamzar is a website that converts digital media obtained from a url (internet website) or by uploading a file. Once the file is uploaded Zamzar converts the file and sends you an email with a link to download your converted file. This process can take up to 24 hours to receive notification. Either TeacherTube or YouTube videos can be converted by Zamzar. If needed here are the written directions about using Zamzar. Zamzar QuickGuide (.pdf)
4. After the converted file has been downloaded, move it to the presentation station, so that it can be shown to your students. Attempt to save it to the network, to a usb drive, or to your My Documents (make sure the file isn’t too large or move it to another location after transfer so it doesn’t take up your profile space) to transfer it to the presentation station.
